Waif-like, honey-haired and freckled performer who gained attention in the mid-1970s for her sympathetic performances as disturbed teenagers, in Terrence Malick's poetic "Badlands" (1973) and Brian De Palma's teen horror classic, "Carrie" (1977), before moving on to more adult roles. Spacek was superb as one of Robert Altman's "Three Women" (1977), the naive inductee into Shelly Duvall's cult of personality. She reached a new level of stardom, winning an Oscar for impersonating country singer Loretta Lynn in the finely observed biopic, "Coal Miner's Daughter" (1980)....
